Souverix Multi-Master Control Plane

Federated Management for Distributed Fleet Operations

Overview

The Multi-Master Control Plane enables federated management of Souverix fleets across regions, edge zones, and air-gapped environments. It supports regional autonomy, eventual consistency, and hierarchical authority.

Regional Authority

Authority Levels

  1. Global Authority
  2. Master-of-record for global policies
  3. Cross-region coordination
  4. Federation management

  5. Regional Authority

  6. Master-of-record for regional policies
  7. Local autonomy
  8. Upstream sync to global

  9. Local Authority

  10. Master-of-record for edge zone
  11. Conditional autonomy
  12. Upstream sync to region

  13. Autonomous Authority

  14. Full local autonomy
  15. No upstream dependency
  16. Opportunistic sync

Authority Model

Authority:
  level: "regional"
  region: "region-a"
  master: "region-a-control"

  autonomy:
    can_operate_isolated: true
    can_modify_policies: true
    can_deploy_versions: true

  sync:
    upstream: "global-control"
    frequency: "15m"
    mode: "continuous"
    last_sync: "2026-02-27T03:45:00Z"

Eventual Consistency

Consistency Model

  • Strong Consistency: Within region (local master)
  • Eventual Consistency: Across regions (federation)
  • Optimistic Updates: Local changes propagate upstream
  • Conflict Resolution: Last-write-wins with versioning

Sync Strategy

SyncStrategy:
  region: "region-a"

  upstream:
    target: "global-control"
    frequency: "15m"
    mode: "continuous"
    batch_size: 100

  downstream:
    targets: ["edge-zone-a1", "edge-zone-a2"]
    frequency: "5m"
    mode: "push"
    retry_policy: "exponential-backoff"

  conflict_resolution:
    strategy: "last-write-wins"

UI Patterns

Hierarchical Overlays

  • Collapsible regions
  • Expandable zones
  • Authority indicators
  • Sync status per level

Master-of-Record Indicators

  • Visual markers for authority
  • Color coding by authority level
  • Sync relationship arrows
  • Autonomy status badges

Federation Boundaries

  • Trust domain visualization
  • Policy boundary overlays
  • Sync relationship graphs
  • Conflict resolution status

Implementation

Federation Manager

type FederationManager struct {
    globalMaster *ControlPlane
    regions map[string]*RegionalControlPlane
    edgeZones map[string]*EdgeZoneControlPlane
    syncCoord *SyncCoordinator
    conflictRes *ConflictResolver
}

Regional Control Plane

  • Local master-of-record
  • Regional policy authority
  • Upstream sync coordination
  • Downstream propagation

Edge Zone Control Plane

  • Local authority
  • Conditional autonomy
  • Upstream sync
  • Store-and-forward capability

Sync Coordinator

  • Manages sync schedules
  • Coordinates upstream/downstream
  • Handles retries
  • Tracks sync debt

Conflict Resolver

  • Detects conflicts
  • Applies resolution strategy
  • Maintains audit log
  • Notifies operators

Integration Points

With Digital Twin Service

  • Authority metadata
  • Sync status
  • Federation relationships

With Connectivity Manager

  • Regional connectivity
  • Sync coordination
  • Autonomous mode handling

With Lifecycle Manager

  • Regional rollout coordination
  • Version propagation
  • Policy distribution

Next Steps

  1. Design federation data model
  2. Implement sync coordinator
  3. Build conflict resolver
  4. Create authority hierarchy
  5. Design UI for multi-master view
